I’ve taken my promotional work to a new level. I mashed it up with VO and ponies, and now I’m the voice for a Brony convention called Derpy Con South. Here I am as Beignet, the pastry baking, con promoting pony from New Orleans:
I really had a great time auditioning for the part and developing Beignet. I’ve always wanted to be a pony! Here’s the original audition:
I know you may be thinking “Prentice, the final promo sounds nothing like the auditions you did. I loved take #_ best. What gives?” And, my response is “You’re absolutely right!” This was what I liked best about this VO gig, and I’ll tell you why.
The voice seeker wanted a cute audition with a French flair, which is what I gave for the first take. The second was my own creation because I thought a thick, friendly, Southern accent would fit the New Orleans vibe well (Though I did add a little French with “Bonjour,Y’all!” Lol).
The third was a Rarity-esque read, because I like doing those and felt it would fit the character, and I wanted to show range. Personally, the second read was my favorite, but C’est La Vie. (That means “Such is Life”, Y’ALL!).
When I got the gig, they decided I should mix elements of the last two reads. They liked the Southern accent, but they wanted the cute class and higher pitch of the Rarity-esque read. This is what I really enjoyed. To dissect my already established, Southern character into three distinctly different Beignets was a great experiment. One was a fusion of the two reads. The second was a higher and slightly toned down version of my original Southern gal, and the third was more sing song and airy. I sent all three, though I knew they would likely pick the third. What can I say? Bronies like squee-gasms.
So, how does it feel to be a pony? It’s awesome! The video was on Stay Brony, My Friends and Equestria Daily! The animator is another Brony from the ATL, and he did a fantastic job. His other stuff is awesome, too! Check it out! I look forward to doing more videos for Derpy Con South. Besides, transforming from a Promo Girl to a Promo Pony is an adorable antithesis of Equestria Girls, right?
